FAQ

Web design questions, answered

Straight answers to the questions business owners ask us most, from what a website costs to what happens after launch.

Cost & quotes

How much does a website cost?

Websites start at $1,500 for a custom design of up to 3 pages. The final price depends on the number of pages, features like booking or online payments, and whether you need help with the content. You get a clear quote before any work starts.

Why do website prices vary so much?

A template site and a custom one can look alike at first glance. The difference shows in how fast the site loads, how well it’s put together for Google and how far it can grow before it needs rebuilding. We price for what your business needs, not a package padded with features you won’t use.

Is the quote free?

Yes, and there’s no obligation. Fill in the quote form or call us, and we’ll ask a few questions about your business before we put a price together.

How do payments work?

Every project is paid in installments, based on the size of the project. You can pay online or by check when each invoice is issued, and your quote spells out the schedule.

Do I own my website?

Yes. Once the final payment is made, the website and its content are yours, whether we host it for you or you host it somewhere else.

Are there costs after the site launches?

The main ongoing cost is hosting and maintenance. You can host your site anywhere you like, or with us on one of our website care plans, which cover hosting, updates, backups and error fixes for one monthly fee. Your domain name renews separately each year.

Process & working together

What do you need from me to get started?

Just a conversation about your business and what the website should do. A logo, photos and existing text all help, but none of it is needed for a quote. Our process page lists what we ask for later on.

Can you work with my existing logo and branding?

Yes. If you have a logo, colors and fonts, we design around them. If you don’t, we’ll talk about what you need before design starts.

Do you write the content?

We can. Many clients send notes or answer a few questions, and we turn that into page copy written for your customers and for search. If you’d rather write it yourself, we’ll edit it and fit it to the design.

Do you work with businesses outside Pennsylvania?

Yes. We’re based in Clarks Summit, PA, and work with businesses across the U.S. and abroad, including clients in Illinois, Connecticut and Australia. See our service areas for the Pennsylvania towns we cover most.

Design & development

Do you use website templates?

Not by default. Each site is designed for the business it belongs to, then custom-coded or built as a custom WordPress theme, which keeps pages fast and the design consistent from page to page. If you already have a template you like, we’ll take a look and see if it fits your business and what your site needs.

Will my website work on phones?

Yes. We design for phones first, since that’s where most visitors arrive, and then scale the layout up for tablets and desktops. Every page is checked on real devices before launch.

Should my site be on WordPress or custom-coded?

It depends on what the site needs to do. WordPress suits blogs, stores and sites with a lot of content. A custom-coded site is lighter and faster for smaller sites that don’t change often. We’ll recommend one in your quote and explain why.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It can if it’s done carelessly. On every redesign we list the pages of your current site, keep the content that ranks and add a permanent redirect for every URL that changes. Some movement right after launch is normal while Google re-reads the site.

Do you build accessible websites?

Yes. We build to the accessibility basics on every site: readable contrast, a clear heading structure, descriptions on images, labeled form fields and keyboard navigation.

SEO & marketing

Will my new website rank on Google?

No one can promise rankings, so be careful with anyone who does. What we can do is build the site the way Google expects: fast, mobile-friendly, with clear titles and structured data, and a page for each service and area you want to be found for.

What’s the difference between SEO and local SEO?

SEO helps your pages show up in the regular search results. Local SEO focuses on Google Maps and the local map results that appear when someone searches for a business nearby. Most local businesses need both.

Do you run Google Ads and social media campaigns?

Yes. We manage Google Ads, social media and email campaigns, with tracking set up so you can see which campaigns bring in calls and form leads.

Hosting & care plans

What’s included in a care plan?

Hosting on our own servers in a U.S. data center, updates to WordPress and plugins, off-site backups six times a day, monitoring and fixes when something breaks. Plans start at $89 a month, and the Professional and Enterprise plans add time each month for changes to your site.

Do I need a care plan?

It’s optional. But a website that isn’t updated gets slower and less secure over time. With a website care plan, someone is responsible for keeping it running, so you don’t have to think about it.

Who makes changes to my site after launch?

It’s up to you. You can make changes yourself, and we’ll show you how, or send them to us and we’ll take care of them as needed or as part of a website care plan. Updating WordPress and plugins yourself carries a higher risk of breaking something, so many clients leave that part to us.

Can you host a website you didn’t build?

Often, yes, as part of a care plan. We review the site first, because some older sites need updates or fixes before they’re safe to move.

Online stores

WooCommerce or Shopify: which is better?

Neither one is right for everyone. WooCommerce gives you full ownership, no platform transaction fees and room for things like courses and memberships. Shopify is fully hosted and simple to run. We build on both and recommend the one that suits your products and budget.

Can I sell online courses next to my products?

Yes. We built a WooCommerce store for one of our clients where customers buy sewing patterns and enroll in LearnDash courses in one order. See the project.

Do you set up payments and shipping?

Yes. We connect your payment provider, set up shipping rates, taxes and order emails, and place test orders before the store goes live.
