How we work

Our web design process

Five steps from the first conversation to a website that’s live and looked after. You see and approve the work at each stage before we move on to the next.

Before step one: a free quote. We talk about your business and what you need, and you get a clear price before any work starts.

  1. 01

    Discovery

We start by learning how your business wins customers: who they are, what they ask before they call and why they choose you over someone else. If you already have a website, we look at it closely, including what Google sends to it today.

    What happens

    • A conversation about your goals, services and customers
    • A review of your current site: speed, mobile, SEO and accessibility
    • A look at your Search Console and analytics data, if you have it
    • A look at the competitors your customers compare you with

    What you get

A short summary of what we found and what the new site needs to do.

  2. 02

    Strategy & planning

Before anything is designed, we agree on what the site will include and how it will be organized. Most of the big decisions happen here, so nothing important turns up halfway through the build.

    What happens

    • A sitemap of every page
    • A keyword plan, so each page has one clear search target
    • Wireframes for the key pages
    • A platform recommendation: WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify or a custom-coded site
    • A redirect plan if we’re replacing an old site
    • A content plan: what you’ll send and what we’ll write

    What you get

A sitemap and wireframes to review and approve.

  3. 03

    Design

We design the homepage first, then the key inner pages, using your logo, colors and photos. You see each design at desktop and phone sizes and tell us what to change.

    What happens

    • Homepage design
    • Designs for the key inner pages
    • Phone and tablet layouts
    • Revisions based on your feedback

    What you get

Approved designs that show exactly how the site will look.

  4. 04

    Development

With the designs approved, we build the site, add your content and connect everything that makes it work for your business, like forms, analytics, booking or payments.

    What happens

    • A custom-coded, WordPress or Shopify build
    • Your content and images, added and optimized
    • Forms, analytics and integrations connected
    • Titles, descriptions and structured data on every page
    • Testing on phones, tablets and desktops in the major browsers

    What you get

A private preview of the full site to review before it goes live.

  5. 05

    Launch & support

When you approve the preview, we move the site to its live server, switch on the redirects from any old pages and check that Google can read everything. From then on, a care plan keeps it running.

    What happens

    • Final speed, link and form checks
    • Redirects from every old address
    • Sitemap submitted to Google Search Console
    • A planned switch-over that keeps downtime to a minimum
    • Hosting, updates, backups and fixes through a care plan

    What you get

A live website, with someone keeping an eye on it.

What we’ll ask you for

None of this is needed for a quote. If something on the list is missing, tell us and we’ll work it out together.

  1. Your logo and colors

If you have a logo, brand colors or fonts, send them over. If you don’t, we’ll talk about what makes sense.

  2. Photos

Photos of your work, your team, your products or your location. Real photos almost always beat stock.

  3. What you know about your customers

The questions they ask, the services they want most and why they choose you. It shapes the whole site.

  4. Existing text, or notes

Text from your current site or brochures, or just notes. We can write the pages from there.

  5. Access to your accounts

Your domain, current hosting and Google accounts, so we can plan redirects and the switch-over.

  6. Feedback at each review

A reply when we send the sitemap, the designs and the preview. It keeps the project moving.

Questions about the process

How much of your time a project takes, when you see the design and what happens to your current site along the way.

How involved do I need to be?

Most of your time goes into the first conversation and the review points: the sitemap, the designs and the finished preview. Between those, we do the work and come back to you when we have questions.

Do I see the design before you build the site?

Yes. You approve the homepage and key page designs before development starts, so the finished site matches what you signed off on.

What if I don’t have good photos?

Tell us what you have. Real photos of your work usually beat stock, so we plan around yours and fill any gaps with carefully chosen stock images where it makes sense.

Does my current website stay online during the project?

Yes. We build on a private preview, and your current site stays live until the new one is approved and launched.

What happens after launch?

A care plan takes over, covering hosting, updates, backups and fixes. Higher plans include monthly time for changes, so you send us your edits and we make them.
